KUKA selects ARO for aluminium welding
ARO, a global leader in resistance welding, is helping customers achieve their quality and efficiency targets worldwide. Yet another example is the BIW (body in white) of the upcoming Jeep® Wrangler Truck, which will be built by KUKA Toledo Production Operations (KTPO) in the United States.
The Toledo plant has built all of the BIW Jeep® Wranglers sold in the world since 2006. It is KUKA’s showcase for its expertise in welding, joining technologies and systems integration.
Like so many others, this new generation of vehicle is partially comprised of aluminium. For the joining of this material, KUKA turned to resistance welding, the most flexible and cost-effective joining process; and more specifically decided to use the ARO solution, based on their experience with Ford’s F150 production lines.
Tony Rubio, Manager of Joining Technologies at KUKA Systems North America, said: "The reason KUKA selected the ARO iBox is we believe in the ability and flexibility of the weld control. It’s a “Servo Controlled Process Solution”. The ARO iBox is a closed loop force control process, it has the ability to perform a multi-step force profile, and it closely manages the force throughout the weld with synchronized current. The force control process is the most critical when welding aluminum materials, the synchronization of both force and current was the requirement we were looking for!".
The ARO aluminium welding solution is a based on an integrated process controller, the iBox, that manages all weld parameters (force, current, time), coupled with ARO guns incorporating the best servomotor on the market, water cooled with embedded force sensor. This unique combination seamlessly manages synchronized force and current profiles, which are the foundation for process robustness, even in the presence of adhesives. ARO supports their systems worldwide.
Tony Rubio adds: “The ARO Technologies team was another big contributor to our decision, the trust and the support from ARO has been out-standing on all programs.”
